Additional memories in Not My Time include Nazi soldiers herding her family into the ghetto, where they lived in deplorable conditions; enduring the selection process; the degrading treatment by the Nazis; witnessing senseless murders of family and friends; escaping from the camp; getting a job at an orphanage; later working in a labor camp; her reunion with her parents and ultimately moving to America. Although they represent two different generations, Nessy and Debbie have a lot in common - interests, suppressed memories, and fears. In the end, they help each other overcome their fears and come to terms with concerns that haunt them.

This is a book that will touch your soul, warm your heart, and open your eyes. With the genius of a skilled storyteller, the author has crafted a mesmerizing chronicle that will affect you as few tales do. Wolfman deftly weaves two disparate generations together in a sensitive, yet often harrowing depiction of the Holocaust. The biography of survivor Nessy Marks and the medical challenges of teenager Debbie Robbins are intertwined in a narrative that commends your attention and celebrates their lives. There are many powerful words here, just as there is a most powerful message! I'm sure you will discover, as I did, that this is a book most difficult to put down.

Could have been very depressing, but . . .

Amazing writing bounces back and forth between the world Nessy lives in today and the memories of an horrific experience. A story which could have brought the reader to sadness and a fear of the subject, but was steeped in ongoing current happiness and friendship which brought it to a different level. Anyone from the age of 14 through 100 could read this and get confident feelings of hope for the future no matter what their situation is today, with perserverance and strength of hope -- and EVERYONE should! I am still awed by the writing and the story . . .

A Most Compelling Book!

This book is a page-turner. As I read it, I felt it, and I saw it in my mind's eye--that is the mark of a very skillful storyteller, and Ms. Wolfman certainly is a very skillful storyteller. The book tugged at my emotions and it reduced me to shame at times, thinking that those of my species could perpetrate such vicious and murderous control over a designated portion of the populace.

I recommend this book very highly; I couldn't put it down.

If you are trying to find the exact coordinates of a particular shtetl, then there is no book better than this one. However, I purchased this book thinking that I would be told a bit about the actual shtetls themselves, so that I could really learn about what Jewish life was there. This book had virtually nothing for this.

Ark Royal 2.0

This seems a lot like Chris Nuttals Ark Royal Series. Some parts are better like having a CAG who is afraid of going home compared to a drunken Captain but the book does seem like a rehash of the Ark Royal Series minus aliens. Having the corruption dealt with so easily in the first part was a good plot choice as it allowed the book to move on to bigger and better things.

I do think “the Lesbian” relationship was unnecessarily detailed as I never really bonded with Williams because of it. Ok running off with somebody in the chain of command i.e CAG would be so Ark Royal but why do I care if she is with the nurse? I have no investment in those characters getting together. It seems like they were given screen time just to establish having a lesbian couple. Have Williams involved with somebody we know and care about. Angela the nurse was mentioned several times but mainly revolved around her relationship with Williams. Either expand Angelas character or downplay her and Williams relationship with just ‘and she’s now in a relationship’ line.

The author spent time going into several characters personal life but left James Russell’s fate unanswered. I assume that he died.

All in all a good read but I did notice a few editing mistakes. These were not major to me.

I think a character list would be a good idea along with perhaps a map should this develop into a series. Should Book two come around I’d like to see more of Angela Alverez to justify her inclusion in book one although I wouldn't miss her if she died before the book began.

As long as the book remains cheap then I’d recommend it. There are better books out there but also far worse. If you liked this then check out Ark Royal by Christopher Nuttall

A well done military space opera. As a few other reviewers have mentioned the plot is not that original but it is still worth reading. The writing is a little more mature than the author's Starship Mage series. I will definitely keep an eye out for a sequel.

I will say this, one thing I hate about space operas is that they tend to drag out the story line. Authors always leave a cliff hanger where a reader has to wait almost a year before you get some closure. However, Glynn Stewart kept the story moving at a very brisk pace. He seems to have cut out a lot of the garbage and just stuck to the juicier bits. I hope he writes a sequel to this. I want to see what the crew of the Avalon will do next. I originally read this book as part of the Amazon unlimited package, but I went ahead and bought it so I can always have a copy. Bravo on an excellent book, please keep writing.

This is one of my faviortie Nathalie Dupree books. In college, I loaned my copy to a friend who moved to California and took it with her, but I've now got another copy. Everything I've made from it is wonderful. Best angel-food cake recipe around.
