A good suspensful book with well researhed Hawaiin history

The ancient Hawaiian culture has always held an air of mystique. The language, not readily understandable by the rest of the world, even has a touch of the unknown. Couple these with a warm tropical paradise and you have the perfect setting for suspense.When Kate McKenna, the daughter of a native Hawaiian mother, visits the island of Maui in search of her heritage, a chance meeting with a mysterious stranger piques her curiosity. The stranger, Dan Kala, is disconcerted with the near-identical resemblance of Kate to a long-dead Princess of Hawaiian Royalty.Beginning with a missing roll of film, unexplainable events begin to occur which seem to have roots in a curse out of the past. When Kate begins to doubt her own sanity she wonders if Dan holds the answers, or is he on a search for his own reasons? TAKE MY BREATH AWAY is a good, suspenseful read that kept me turning the pages.

This book is interesting and spellbinding. Meg's other books that I love are her Jesse James series and my favorite thriller is "The Keeper". If you like suspence and mystery, you have to read these books. When you read, you are there, you can understand the characters and are rapt to see what happens to them throughout the story. Jesse James of the series is a unique character and as the books evolve so does she. She ages and grows. The only thing wanting about these books is that it takes too long before a new one comes out!
Do yourselves a favor and get into a Meg O'Brien book, you'll be glad you did.

Take My Breath Away is the fifth Meg O'Brien book I've read and the author continues to amaze me. Her writing is both intelligently crafted and full of suspense. I loved the way she weaved historical fact throughout a modern plot. The heroine is brave, but in a vulnerable sort of way, making me want to cheer her on every step of the way.

Class Textbook

I am currently enrolled in the IB Sports, Exercise, and Health course at my high school. It is a pilot course from which I will be one of the first 14 graduates. Because it is still a pilot course, when we started, there was no official textbook. About halfway through the first year (it is a 2-year course) this textbook came out. It has been very helpful. I only really have 2 complaints. Firstly, it does not contain all the information needed for the IB exam for this course. Therefore, we use the textbook "Physical Education and the Study of Sport 5e" by Robert Davis PhD as a supplement. Also, the Sproule textbook is very lacking when it comes to a glossary.

Best available - but not perfect

This is promoted as the guide to the subject and it would be fair to assume that it would match up seamlessly with the course content, however in my view it does not. I sense that the time pressure to get the book out and available means that it doesn't quite reflect some of the changes that have been made to the subject since the pilot phase concluded. I'll be in the queue for any updated edition without a doubt but this one just misses the mark for me.

Easy read, good information

I was curious to read this book as I have read several books written by the same author. It was an anedotal look at buying your first house as told by many of the most successful executives in the Keller Williams Realty family.

I found it interesting that no matter what their walk of life was when they originally purchased a home, they knew that it was the right thing to do, for the right reasons.

Home ownership does more than provide a roof over your head. It gives you the freedom to decorate the way you want to, instead of living in a house that the landlord won't allow you to make uniquely your own. It allows you to learn the responsiblity of ownership instead of relying on a landlord to take care of the property. It also showed that in most cases the value fo the property increased and created the largest share of a person's net worth.

It was an easy read, I think I read through the entire book in a couple of sittings. I would recommend it to anyone thinking of buying their first home, because it is not a sales book but the story of several different people from different parts ot the country that all experienced the same end result.

Cheesy but effective

Cheesy writing style but very informative for first time buyers. Breaks everything down into chapters in the order of the process. Full disclosure, I work for Keller Williams and figured I would read the book before I handed some of them to clients as marketing. Personally, I would cut out some of the sappy stuff but the organization and structure overall is very solid in this book.

So very out of date. The market has changed.

Ever so dated!

This book was not published in 2013 as stated by Amazon, the copyright is 2008. The author writes from the naive optimism of a zealous pre-crash realtor who equates home ownership with unlimited wealth potential, no-possible-loss investment and being a good 'Merican. I was expecting some savvy tips to deal with the cruel realities of the current market, but the 2008 copyright precludes that. Do not fall for their deception. So much has changed since 2008!

The series of investigations reported in this impressive book resolve this paradoxical state of affairs. The investigators have overcome two major obstacles to progress in the past--lack of agreement on measures of improvement and difficulty of measuring active ingredients of the psychotherapy relationship. The inability of therapists of different theoretical persuasions to agree on criteria of improvement has made comparison of the results of different forms of treatment nearly impossible. The authors have solved this intractable problem by using a wide range of improvement measures and showing that, regardless of measures used in different studies, a significantly higher proportion of results favor their hypothesis than disregard it.

Overall, this book represented a major advance at the time of its original publication and is of continuing importance. The research findings resolve some of the most stubborn research problems in psychotherapy, and the training program based on them points the way toward overcoming the shortage of psychotherapists.

If you are looking for the Golden Thread that ties all therapies together, this is it. The healing aspect that is central to all therapeutic theories consists of the values and attitudes brought into the counseling room by the therapist. Whether one is a beginning student, a doctoral student, or engaged in the practice of therapy, this is for you. This book is too often discounted or ignored by those who focus on the techniques of "Doing" therapy.
One would be very wise to hold the concepts contained herein throughout their education and training periods of development. Research shows that the more technique-centered graduate students become, the less relationship oriented, thus less effective therapists, they become.
