About the Author
DAVID HOWE is Professor of Social Work at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK. He was founding editor of the Blackwell Science Journal, Child and Family Social Work (1996-2001) and is author of many books, including: Attachment Theory for Social Work Practice; Attachment Theory, Child Maltreatment and Family Support; Child Abuse and Neglect: Attachment, Development and Intervention; and The Emotionally Intelligent Social Worker.

I simply wanted to see how social work's philosophy of change and intervention differed from counseling and psychological theories/models. This text was quite helpful for that purpose. Buying this book is an inexpensive way to introduce oneself to social work theories, especially if one is a student looking to enter into a helping profession of some sort.

I hate reading about theory but I am prepping for the SW licensing exam and my supervisor recommended this book. It makes pretty hefty concepts easy to understand. It is written in a way that is easy to read.

Excellent

The descriptions of social work theories in this book are beautifully summarised in a clear and easy to read way. I found that in some cases I drew more from some of the chapters that I had from much more detailed texts on individual theories. The introduction to social work in general and the use of theories is also one of the best I read. I recommend this book to both students and practitioners wishing to 'refresh' their knowledge.
