About the Author
Jeanne Cordova is one of the founders of the West Coast gay and lesbian movement. She organized the first National Lesbian Conference (1973), founded and published THE LESBIAN TIDE (1971-80), and was Human Rights Editor for the L.A. FREE PRESS.
Cordova is former publisher of the NEW AGE TELEPHONE BOOK and THE COMMUNITY YELLOW PAGES: Survival Guide to Gay & Lesbian Southern California.
She is also author of SEXISM: It's a Nasty Affair.

a fun nun and the anthology she's a part of is more than worth a look

I'm just the right vintage to have enjoyed this book, having been a catholic schoolboy at about the same time JC (Jean Cordova) was experiencing this post vatican 2 deal and learning disenchantment with the system.
A nice essay she wrote kicks this other anthology entitled "Lesbian Nuns: Breaking Silence" which is a really fascinating book about a dozen or more women who had vastly various experiences in service of the RC (Roman Catholic) church. If you read only one lesbian nun book, let it be that one. You'll probably want to check out this one after reading that one, however.

An importnat telling of one woman's life changing story

I had the pleasure of editing this book when it was first published. The story speaks to women going through critical decisions about their sexuality in the midst of religious dogma. Jeannes story is a couragious one not just for the intimate details she shares, but also for the era (1989) in which she shares them! NO ONE wrote like this in 1989, and few do even today. Jeanne tells her story with a candor and humor that makes the tough issues expressed in the novel very accessable to young and old women alike. Kicking The Habit will invite you to have courage and enthusiasm to make changes in your own life. Fun, fresh writing from a first time book author and a great read!
